So apparently it is totally legal for the police to create fake accounts on instagram, friend you and use your posts against you without use of search warrants during investigations swhich include you as a suspect.
This is according to District Court Judge William Martini of New Jersey after such an investigation helped the police bust a jewelry theft ring in 2013.
Apparently Daniel Gatson, the leader of the ring posted some of the loot on instagram thinking the privacy settings would help him. The police simply created a fake account and requested to follow him where he got busted.
When all is said and done nothing is usually private when shared through the internet and that is what we should all keep in mind next time we post a something online.
